Dr. David Wallin, a Western Washington University Huxley College of Environmental Studies professor, presents a program describing the unique features of Pacific Northwest forests. He will use historical information to compare modern forests to those that existed prior to European-American settlement of the region. Information about these pre-settlement forests has become widely used in recent years to guide forest management decisions in the Pacific Northwest, an area that includes some of the most productive forestlands in the world and has provided a significant portion of the world timber supply for many decades.

Dr. Wallin is a forest ecologist and his research focuses on the effects of land-use on the structure and function of forest ecosystems.
